Back to School: Philippines

We have been honored to partner with amazing people working in the Philippines for many years. Tiwala Kids & Communities runs various educational programs for children and parents such as student enrichment classes, tutorials, scholarship grants, digital learning, expressive arts classes, as well as parenting seminars and sessions.

The enrichment classes are designed to help improve the academic skills of low-income children and provide opportunities for the children to learn about a variety of topics in fun and exciting ways. Topics include World of Wonders (Science Exploration Class), A Healthy Me (Health and Hygiene), Always Ready! (Disaster Preparedness), Tiwala Kids Honor Club (Value Formation Class), Expedition Earth (Culture and Geography Exploration Class). Their classes are held in community halls, inside slum villages, and can accommodate up to 30 students per session. They also provide STEP classes that offer a different learning experience for the students that need help filling in the missing gaps in their education that they receive from public schools.

As the students at Tiwala move forward this school year, they are still navigating the difficulties of the pandemic. The Tiwala Staff and Team have even found ways to take education to the children when they weren’t able to come to school through distance learning. To assist the students in their studies, Tiwala provided educational tablets pre-loaded with instructional videos for their classes. They also assisted them technically so that they would feel comfortable using digital technology. These tools greatly aided these children in continuing their education, understanding their lessons, and completing all of their academic requirements.

Tiwala's heart and commitment to the vulnerable children they work with every day is beyond incredible! We would love to continue to provide Tiwala with the resources they need to continue to serve and provide education for underprivileged children, their families, and their community in the Philippines.
